Yechiel “Hilik” Magnus leads international search and rescue missions across some of the most challenging environments in the world. For decades, he has been at the forefront of efforts to locate, rescue, and recover people in crisis situations, responding to both natural disasters and human tragedies.
His work spans continents and circumstances. Magnus has assisted victims of large-scale disasters such as tsunamis, reaching devastated areas where infrastructure has collapsed and time is critical. At the same time, he has come to the aid of stranded backpackers and travelers who found themselves lost, injured, or trapped far from home, often in remote and unforgiving terrain.
Alongside rescue operations, Magnus has also led some of the most sensitive and painful missions imaginable. These include the recovery of the bodies of Israeli victims of terror and tragedy. Among the most well-known of these efforts was his involvement in retrieving the bodies of Jewish victims of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, an operation that required not only operational expertise but also profound responsibility and respect.
Through these missions, Magnus has built a reputation for professionalism, determination, and an unwavering commitment to human dignity. His work reflects the full spectrum of search and rescue, from saving lives under extreme pressure to bringing closure to families in moments of deep loss.
